Third Grade Monster

HEAD:

Use a 9” paper plate.

Green Eye: 1” diameter ball out of green const. paper.  Glue 11/2” from top and 3” from side of paper plate. Around eye glue seven 1” pieces of pink yarn sticking out from eye. Glue one 3” piece of pink yarn on top of eye.

Eyebrows: Out of dark blue const. paper, make 2 rectangles about 1”long and ¼” wide. Glue  1” from top of plate at a slight angle and 1 ½” from sides of plate.. Using light blue constr. paper, make rectangle 1 ½ by ½” .  Glue in center of plate ½” from top.

Nose:  Cut a triangle from aqua blue const. paper which is 1 ½” across bottom.  Glue triangle with point up 3 ½” from top of plate in center of plate.  Cut 2  ¼” circles of dark blue const.paper. Glue on each side of triangle. Out of brown const. paper make mustache 2 ¼”long.  Glue to bottom of triangle.

Ears: Using aqua blue and black const. paper make l ear shape out of each color.  Glue black ear on monster’s left side and other ear on monster’s right side Top of ears should be 2” from top of plate.

Mouth: Make 1 ½” x ¼” rectangle of pink const. paper,  1 rectangle  1 ½” x ½” of purple const. paper, and 1 1 X1/2” of light blue paper.  Glue pink rectangle 2” from monster’s right side of plate at about a 60 degree angle. Glue light blue one straight across 2” from bottom of plate and 3” from side.  Glue purple rectangle 1 ½” from left side at about a 100 degree angle.   Cut 4  ½” dark blue triangles (teeth-fangs).  Place 2  point down between pink and light blue rectangle and 2 point down between light blue and purple rectangle.  Cut arc from rim of 6 oz. Styrofoam cup 3”  x ¼”.  Glue, like frowny mouth,

To where ends of arc are  ½” from bottom of plate.  Cut 2 triangles (same size as blue ones) and glue points down ½” from each end of arc.

Hair:  Cut 1  11” piece of pink yarn and glue center of yarn at center top of plate.

BODY: Use 6 9” paper plates and 6 6” Styrofoam plates.  We used the colors orchid, red, violet, carnation pink, blue, purple, and green (regular and lime).  Glue a 6” plate in the center of a 9” plate.

Color the center of the 6” plates a solid color, using one of the colors listed.  On the 9” plates, use the colors to color around the edges, some are striped, some are solid and one is hearts of lime green and black outlines.  We don’t expect to match perfectly on this aspect, so use your creativity.

Glue the edge of  3 of the plates in a row.  Make 2 rows.  Now, glue the top edge of one row to the bottom edge of the other row.  You should have a rectangle shape body with 2 rows of 3 plates across and  2 plates down.

ARMS& HANDS: The arms are 14” long  cylinders 2” in diameter.  The monster’s right  arm is made of pink constr. paper and the left arm is made of blue const. paper.  To make hands, trace one person’s hands on yellow and white constr. paper.  Cut out the 4 hands.

Glue 1 palm of yellow hand to 1 white.   Repeat for other hand.  Glue each hand to each cylinder  with fingers pointing up and yellow side facing to outside.

LEGS & FEET:  Make 2 cylinders of light blue const. paper 12” long and 2” in diameter.  Cut out 2 triangles of red const. paper.  Bottom of triangles should be 2”.  On the monster’s right leg, glue the triangle halfway, pointing inward.  On the monster’s left leg glue the other triangle halfway from the top, pointing straight out.  For the feet, use 4 6” Styrofoam plates.  Cut out 2 circles the exact size of the plates from blue const. paper.

Glue each circle to the top of one of the plates.  Glue the edges of the plates together.

Glue the leg part to the center of the plate that does not have the blue cover, pointing the feet straight out from the legs.
