Directions:

The background is purple heavy weight butcher paper. The body is a large 18” circle with a large 18” triangle on top to form a teardrop shape. The teardrop shape is in the center of the background. The teardrop body is covered with scales made of paper plates cut in fourth. Glue the fourths on the teardrop body. Save two scales to use later. Maggie has two arms attached in the triangle side of the teardrop. The arms are large 18” purple ovals with 1” red and green circles dots half red and green. Each arm has one hand, the palm of the hand is a 4 “ circle with 3- 2” red circles for fingers. Each finger has a ½’ black circle for fingernails.

Maggie’s head is an 18” red circle. One purple 3” purple circle for a nose with two ½” black circles for nostrils in the middle of her face. Her mouth is a 6” red circle with a 4” black circle inside it. It has 6 white triangle teeth with 3 teeth on the top and 3 teeth on the bottom. The monster has 4 eyes. Each eye begins with a 3” purple circle. A 2” red circle is glued to the middle of each 3” purple circle. Then a 1” white circle is glued to the middle of each 2” red circle. The center of each eye is a ½” black circle in the center of the white circle. Turn over each “eye” and glue 5 small black paper strips to the edge for eyelashes. The eyes are placed on the head in an arch over the nose. You should have 4 eyes. The monster’s ears are 2 green paper plate quarters. One on each side of the head. Each has 1” red circle earring. The monster’s hair is made up of the red and green paper strips. Each strip is rolled on a pencil so that it will curl. The hairs are glued in a row across the top edge of the monster’s head between the ears. The head should now be complete. Glue the head to the top of the monster’s body. It should rest on the top of the teardrop shape. The head will hang over the top of the background paper.

The legs are made from one sheet of 9”X12” red construction paper with purple and green stripes glued to it. The stripes are glued in a pattern of green, red, purple. When the glue has dried, two 12” X 2” crooked legs are cur from the striped paper. Tuck the top of the legs under the bottom edge of the monster’s body and glue to the backgound. Next a 12” X9” piece of red construction paper is cut in half shortways to form two rectangles. Glue three 2” purple circles on each for polka dots. These will be the monster’s shorts. Glue one to the top of each leg under the bottom edge of the body. Finally, two boots are cut from green construction paper in the shape of an army boot. The should be 6” tall and 6” wide. Using a hole punch, make three holes in a row along the upper side of the boot. Crisscross lace orange yarn trough the holes and tie in a bow at the top of the boot. Glue the boots to the bottom of each leg.

NOW I AM COMPLETE!! DON’T YOU THINK I AM A BEAUTIFUL MONSTER!

Classroom B: Cheryl Kalinowski (Galien, MI)

Monster description goes here: Materials Used: 2) shoe boxes; 1 box was 12 X 7, 1 box was 91/2 x 6 3/4; 1 sheet of 12 x 18 red consturction paper; 2 blue balloons; 4) 5oz. size Spongebob Dixie Cups; 1 roll of clear packing tape;

We used a 1/2 sheet of 12 x 9 construction paper of the following colors: black, lime green, purple, orange and blue.

2) 9 inch white paper plates; 1) piece of purple construction paper size 2in x 6 in.; 1) 2 1/2 in. blue circle;

1) 1 1/2 in x 3/4 in green rec.; and 1) 2 3/4 x 2 1/2 in. orange triange.

Legs: We used the smaller shoe box for the legs. (This shoe box was the kind that had the lid attached-the lid just flips up, the attached part of the box is along the 6 3/4 in side)

Tape the box so that it will stay closed.

Next, (on the front part of the box) cut a slit down the middle from the top to the bottom part of the box. This will

form the two legs.

The right and left leg have been cut apart from each other but they need to be cut apart from the other side so that

the legs will move.

Now, divide the 1/2 sheet of 12 x 9 green construction paper into fourths. Glue one strip onto each leg and each

side. (we did not cover the back)

Blow up the two blue balloons and tape them to the feet of each leg.

Body: Use the 12 x 7 shoe box for the body. Again, this box was the kind that had the lid attached. We left the lid on

and tape it down. (It just seemed to make the body more sturdy).

After the lid is taped to the bottom, cover the box with the 12 x 18 sheet of red construction paper. We

wrapped it like a gift and did not worry about covering the back of the box.

Arms: Mark four arms in four different colors. (Light green, purple, blue and orange)

To make the arms, roll the pieces of construction paper (1/2 of 12 x 9) long ways and tape closed.

They will look like small tubes.

The upper left arm is green and the lower left arm is purple. The upper right arem is blue and lower orange

The arms are 2 1/2 inches apart.

Hands: Use 4) 5 oz. dixie cups Ours have Sponge Bob on them.

Make a slit in the bottom of each cup.

Slide one cup onto each arm. (the arm does not come all the way through the cup.

Now put the red body on top of the green legs. Use lots of clear packing tape in order to secure the two boxes together.

Head: Using one of the 9 inch paper plates make a 1 1/2 inch fold along the bottom. This should give you about

a 7 inch flat line across the bottom of the plate.

Fold the 1 1/2 inch flap toward the back and then place the plate on top of the red body. Line the flat part of the

plate on the front edge of the red body. Tape the 1 1/2 inch flap down.

Next, roll up the other 9 inch paper plate and tape it closed. ( this will support the head in the back)

Bend one end up about 2 1/2 inches.

Tape that part down behind the head. The long part of the rolled up paperplate will lean agains the top back

part of the head. Tape it.

Hair: Curly Black Hair: Using 1/2 of a sheet of 12 x 9 black consstruction paper, cut (long ways) 1/2 in strips.

Curl the strips. (this can be done by wrapping it around a pencil)

Glue the curls around the head. (24 of them)

Mouth: 2 x 6 inch purple rectangle.

Clip each pointy corner so it is curved.

On one 6 inch side cut out triangles so the mouth looks like sharp teeth.

The other 6 inch side will be the bottom of the mouth. This part will sit flat on the bottom of the head where

the head is attached to the red body.

Glue the mouth down.

Eye: The eye is made from a 2 1/2 in blue cirle.

Glue a 1 1/2 in x 3/4 in green rectangle in the middle of the blue eye. (long part of the rectangle goes up

and down)

Now glue eye at the top of the head in the center.

Nose: Is a 2 3/4 x 2 1/2 inch orange triangle. The point is right under the blue eye and the base of the triangle

slides behind some of the teeth.

Tongue: One curly black strip (just like hair) coming out from behind the teeth. (place in the middle of the mouth.

That's the MONSTER! We have not named him/her yet.

We hope you have fun creating it.
