Wolfie the Werewolf

Supplies needed are: newspaper, scissors, pencils, liquid all purpose glue, tap water, markers (we used marksalot for deeper & darker effects), cardboard, white paper, construction paper, container to hold glue/water mixture ( lining with plastic trash liner makes it easier for clean up) & brown yarn.

Directions:

First- you are going to take cardboard (size of monster preference) and glue into a triangle shape for the body, someone can be laying down newspaper(for clean up  to be easier) & tearing newspaper into long strips for the paper mache. One person can take a couple of pieces of newspaper and bunch it up into a ball (for the head), several students can make the arms & legs by rolling up several layers of newspapers long ways and use glue to close together (you may have to lay something on them until the glue gets tacky & sticks the paper together). Then roll up 2 small balls of newspaper for the eyes, and one for the nose (or we made ours square shaped). Next cut out four holes in sides of monster to put arms and legs through. Let it dry overnightThen you take 4 parts water to 2 parts glue and make a glue bath in your container to make paper mache. You then cover the head, legs, arms, body & eyes with strips of paper dipped in the glue water liquid. Try not to make dripping wet as more mess takes longer to dry. Let dry overnight.  Next glue the eyes and nose on and let dry. Then cover the arms and legs with a layer of yarn (wrapping it round and round). Then cut yarn into about 4 inch strips (you will use a whole skein of yarn, if you are like us). Then begin to glue from bottom of monster to the top- we also after, the long straight hair was placed & dryed put glue on the top of that yarn in places and wildly stuck some on top to bring our monster more alive looking. Then we colored the nose & eyes with black marksalot marker, making them dark & scary. Next you cut out white paper in circles for the front of our eyes, marked in black pupils and red streaks for a scarier effect. After cut our red mouth insides out of red construction paper & glued in place. Then you cut scary looking teeth out of white copy paper & glue in place. We'd like you to meet Wolfie.

Classroom B: Carol McKissick (Meadows El, Fort Hood, TX)

Face

Need: 2 paper plates (9”), red butcher paper (1/2 yard), glue, 2 plastic cups (2-1/2”),

black yarn (2 feet), yellow butcher paper (1-1/2 feet), black butcher paper (1-1/2 feet),

staples and stapler, scissors

• Wrap red butcher paper around each paper plate. Secure it with glue.

• Staple the paper plates together, front to front

• Rip the yellow butcher paper apart and crumple into 2-1/2” balls.

• Glue both eyes down to the red face.

• Cut the black yarn into five 3” pieces.

• Glue three of the pieces horizontally on one of the crumpled yellow balls. Then,

glue two of the pieces vertically to the same crumpled yellow ball. Do the same

thing to the second yellow crumpled ball.

• Glue one of the plastic cups between the eyes to make a nose.

• For mouth, cut a black strip of paper about 1 inch by 5 inches. Cut triangles out

of yellow paper for teeth to glue onto the black strip. There should be 3 triangles

pointing down from the top and 4 pointing up from the bottom. The outer teeth

should point outward like fangs.

• Scar made from black yarn is located beneath the right eye. It is 3 inches long

and has 3 short cross pieces on it.

• For ears, cut the bottom off of one cup. Split the remaining part of the cup into 4

sections from top to bottom. Slip 2 of the pieces between the plates at the top

edge for ears.

Body

Need: 3 yards of red butcher paper, all scraps of butcher paper that we could find, glue,

scissors

Legs and body

• The legs and body will be about 6 feet tall, made of red butcher paper. Cut a slit

upward from the bottom of it about 20”.

• Fold each cut half together like a tube to make the legs. Crumple them as you fold

them. Glue together the long edges of each tube. Once dried, stuff any butcher

paper scraps in the tubes.

• Fold together the rest of the butcher paper. Crumple it. Stuff it with a lot of scrap

butcher paper. Glue the long sides together at the back of the monster.

• Gather paper together at the top to make a short neck.

Arms

• Cut 2 pieces of red butcher paper, each about 1 yard long.

• Fold and crumple each piece into a long 30” tube. Do not fold it too tight because

we’re going to stuff it. Make it look like it has muscles.

• Glue the long edges together.

• Do this again. You should have two long 30” tubes.

• Stuff the tubes will any scraps of butcher paper that you can find.

• Attach to body at shoulders

Feet

Need: 2 adult-size shoe boxes, 1 sheet white construction paper, 2 pieces of white yarn

(12” in length), 2 pieces of green yarn (2” in length), glue, scissors, yellow butcher paper

(1-1/2 yards)

• Cut yellow butcher paper the size needed to wrap both shoe boxes like a present.

• Cut ten 2-1/2” triangles and glue five across the front middle side of each box to

make toes.

• Using the scissors, make jagged cuts into each toe tip, two per tip.

• Glue a piece of the white yarn onto the top front part of each box closest to the

triangles

• Glue a piece of the green yarn above the white yarn (about in the middle)

Tail

Need: Blue butcher paper (1 yard), glue, scissors

• Cut an 8” square of the blue butcher paper to make the point of the tail

• Fold the square like a cone. Trim edge and flatten so that it makes a 3-D triangle.

Glue the cone so that it stays together.

• With the remaining butcher paper, fold and crumple the paper into a long 30”

tube.

• Glue the 3-D triangle on one of the ends of the crumpled tube paper.

• Attach to body.

Wings

Need: Black butcher paper (2 pieces, each 1 yard long), red yarn, glue, scissors, pencil,

scraps of butcher paper for stuffing

• Stack 2 pieces of butcher paper. Fold in half.

• Start at fold to draw half a wing so your wings will be symmetrical.

• Wing is about 5 inches wide at the center of the paper. Wingspan is as wide as

the butcher paper. Edges of wings go to edges of paper. Wings are like butterfly

wings, with an upper and lower section. Each section has 2 points that are squared

off at the end.

• Use pencil to draw the shape of the wings.

• Cut out both sets of wings at the same time.

• Glue red yard from center point of the wing to each point on outer edge on the top

layer of wing only.

• Glue edges of wing together, leaving the top open for stuffing.

• Place rolled strips of paper in wing to stuff.

• Glue open edge.

• Attach to body just below shoulder level.
