Classroom A: Brandi Robledo (Meadows El, Fort Hood, TX)

I had to use larger boxes because the students did not have ANY regular shoe boxes.

Head

Cover a medium box with blue construction paper. Leave horizontal.

Cut strips of different colored construction paper and make fringe out of it. Tape it all over the head in strips.

Color some long cardboard-like material (shoebox) with markers and poke through box on top of head.

Cut three circles out of black construction paper and make three eyes. Cut smaller circles out of pink construction paper to make the middle of the eye.

Cut a wavy rectangle-like mouth out of red construction paper and tape on fringe to make the mouth.

Body (MId-section)

Cover a larger box with blue construction paper.

Cut strips of different colored construction paper and make fringe out of it. Tape all over box.

The box should stand vertically. You should tape the construction paper fringe in rows all over.

The arms of the monster should be connected on this part of the body.

To make the arms you must use permanent marker(black) and make designs on 14 cups.

Tape 7 of the cups together in a desired pose for one of the arms. Same for the other side.

Staple arms on middle of box.

Body (Bottom)

Cover same size box as mid-section with blue construction paper.

Cut strips of different colored construction paper and make fringe out of it. Tape all over box.

Box should be vertical.

Take 8 cups and make designs n the cups and tape to bottom of box to make feet.

Put together!

I used A LOT of tape to put this thing together, scotch tape and carpenter's tape!

Classroom B: Amy Czech (Lakeshore Middle School, Stevensville, MI)

Mrs. Czech’s 4^th Hour (6^th Grade Language Arts)

Monster Description

Lakeshore Middle School, Stevensville, Michigan

Our monster’s name is Curly. He is endangered because of loss of habitat and sasquach. His favorite foods are curly fries, bacon, and mustard on custard. He is from the planet Disconia. Curly’s birthday is every Friday the 13^th.

Head Description:

His mustache is gray and the mouth below is open as if he is yawning. His hair is gathered around his tiny green wizard hat that covers his one ear that sits on top of his dark blue rectangular head. Curly’s sideburns are made up of gray and blue hair. The nose that hangs under his un-even eyes, is medium sized and has the color of a nasty pimple upon your face. Let’s not forget about the pony-tail that hangs out of the top of his pointy wizard hat.

• Get a shoe box 12 and a half by 8 and a half

• Cover it with dark blue construction paper

• 2 plastic clear cups for the eyes (cut in half)

• Medium sized, half blown up pink/red balloon for the nose

• Half of a large plastic cup for the mouth so that it looks like it’s yawning

• One plastic clear cup for the hat that covers the ear on top of his head (there really isn’t an ear, but no one will no!)

• The plastic cup with green construction paper (make it look like a pointy elf/wizard hat)

• Around the hat put afro like hair made with gray and blue yarn (pull a part t make it look frizzy)

• Hairy looking yarn (made the same as the afro hair) for the sideburns on the sides of the head

• Draw scars around the head (the right side of the forehead and the left side of the mouth) using a red marker.
• He has a mustache made out of shredded gray and blue yarn glued right below the nose.

Body Description:

• Take 4 shoe boxes and wrap them in red and black paper (1/2 and 1/2). Place them together horizontally.

• Take a fifth (very large) box and wrap it in yellow paper.

• Blow up 1 large balloon and tape it to the back (red and black box) as a tail.

• Blow up 4 long balloons and tie them together and then tape to the front (red and black box) as a belly button.

• Glue the yellow box to the red and black box.

Arms Description:

First, you have to get 1 piece of newspaper and cut it in half. Then you roll the newspaper into a tube and tape it together. (Make sure you bend it in the middle and put a “joint” in it.) The next thing you do is tape a green balloon on the edge for the hand. After you have taped the balloon on Curly, you wrap dark green yarn around the newspaper. Repeat this step for the second arm.

Legs Description:

• Get 2 shoeboxes

• Cut holes 2 inches big

• Cover with green paper

• Put a hole in the paper where there is the previous hole

• Rol1 up newspaper and secure with rubber bands(4 newspaper rolls)

• Put a Styrofoam cup in the hole

• Tape 2 newspaper rolls together make 2

• Cover in green and off white yarn

• Tape them in the cup

• Use tape to secure at the bottom of the torso
