My kids are so creative that the description of our monster will still be a bit hard to duplicate!  I will convey their instructions to you and your class with a few additions I made to help clarify dimensions and shapes.

Here goes:

Our Monster is a male about 37" high

The head:

Use heavy purple butcher block paper

rectangular  head 10 " high   9-1;2" across (without the ears)

The ears:

The ears extend past the head on the same piece of paper ( the ears are 2" squares) (with ears the head measures 13-1/2" across)

There are two rolled pieces of heavy construction paper stuck

into the bottom of two blue cups to attach them to the ears  The rolled paper is about 1" long extending from the cups

and they are what you glue to the ears

The hair:

Brown yarn is glued to the top of the shallow shoe box for hair 1-1/2 " long

about 3 " down from the top of the head are square ears (one on each side 1/2" x 1/2")

The face:

The eyes have a background of two large black flowers (di cuts)  They are about 4 " across with 6 petals

Inside the black flowers are two green rhombuses  about 1" each side

The nose is a smaller black flower (also a di cut) about 1-1/2 " across

The mouth is only teeth:

On either end are two red triangles on top of each other, bases touching  (1-1/2" each side)

In between the two red larger teeth are 5 smaller trinalges on the top and bottom (total 10 small red teeth 1" each side)

They go straight across spaced equally between the outer larger teeth and measure 7-1/4" across

The neck:

a blue rectangle measuring 7" across and 5-1/2 " high

It is placed right under the head

The body:

Our body looks like a scalloped volcano on brown butcher block paper

It measures 8-1/2" across the top

Halfway down it measures 18-1/2" across

At the bottom it measures 32"

The arms:

Jagged orange arms extend from the brown body about 5-1/2 " down from the top of the body (one on either side)

They are about 4" wide where they touch the body and 2: in the middle of the arm  and they are 14" long

The end of the orange arms are about 3-1/2 "  (not really a pattern, just a jagged cut)

The other arms below the two orange arms:

There are two yellow lightning bolts about 6" from the orange arms  (no set pattern)

The bolts are one both sides as well and range from 2" at the narrow points and about 9" at the widest points.

I do hope this isn't too confusing as this monster is very hard to describe!  If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to

write.

My students really enjoyed this activity and their creativity really shows!  They wrote the description, I think I made it a little more clear.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

Our monster from head to toe is about 52 inches tall.

Head:

Staple two white paper plates together.

Mouth:

Use light green and white yarn to make a rectangle mouth.  Divide the mouth in half with another piece of yarn the same color. Then there are 6 shorter (about 2 inches) pieces of yarn that over lap the middle piece of yarn and touch the top and bottom of the rectangle to creat teeth.  (It looks like a grid.)  We glued the yarn to the front of the paper plate head.

Nose:

Cut about a two - three inch piece of light green yarn and shape it into a circle above the mouth.  Glue it on.

Cut out two circles of green construction paper for the eyes and glue them on above the nose.

Hair:

Tape deflated balloons on top of the head from one side to the other in this order:  yellow, purple, pink, green, blue and orange.

Body:

Use a medium sized shoe box.  Cover it with brown bulletin board paper.  Tape it around the box - like you are wrapping a present.  The shoe box should go the long way to form the body.

Attach the head to the front of the body using tape.  It should be taped on the front close to the top of the box.

Arms:

First use red bulletin board paper (the normal length).

Next roll the paper to form a tube (like wrapping paper) and tape it together.

Cut the roll in half.  Now you have two arms with an opening at the top and bottom of each.

Attach the arms to the side of the body by folding about an inch to make a flap at the top of the arm and then tape it to the body.

Hands:

First you need two different size clear plastic cups.  One cup is short and fat (about 3 inches).  Cover the open end of the cup with a yellow circle of construction paper.  Tape it on.  The second cup is about 4 inches tall and it is a little skinnier.  Wrap the whole cup in yellow construction paper except the opening.  Tape it on.

Attach the short cup to the left side and the tall cup to the right side.  You can do this by sticking the end of the cup right into the opening of the arms and then tape them to secure them.

Legs:

First get one sheet of orange and one sheet of pink bulletin board paper.

Second roll each piece of paper to form a long tube (like wrapping paper).

Third tape the rolled paper together.

Attach the legs to the bottom of the shoe box body, so that the monster's body is on top of them.  The orange leg goes on the right and the pink leg goes on the bottom.

Bend the legs in the middle so the monster looks like it has knees and it can sit on a chair.

Feet:

First get one piece of red bulletin board paper.

Second draw 2 big feet with 3 rounded toes on each foot.  The feet are about 12 inches long and 6 inches wide.

Cut out the feet.

Attach the feet to the bottom of the legs with a stapler.
